Failure is inevitable, call it a law of attrition or entropy or bad luck.  Is it depressing - yes.  Is it soul crushing - yes.  Do stupid people think failure is good - yes.

I guess it depends how you define failure, like not making a living out of something, or not accomplishing the grand plan.  For me, being a tissue box artist was an attempt at success.  The grand plan was to have somebody from Herman Miller, Steelcase, or Vitra to select one of my designs.  To work with other artists and architects in creating new realms of tissue box cover art.  Maybe design and make tissue box covers for boutique hotels.  But I haven’t been able to figure it out yet.

And by the way, there is a ton of artistic merit to facial tissues.  They have meaning and symbolism that can be imparted.  In times of sorrow or grief?  In times of inevitable sickness?  Tissues are soft and could represent political soft power - little peaceful soft flags of truce.  They can also work along sex stuff.  And gross stuff.  And messy stuff. And comedy stuff.  And you can give tissue box covers elaborate backstories.  Could there be a new art movement called “Tissue Impressionism?”

Oh, and if you like Architecture and don’t want to have to pull permits to create something, you can release some of that energy into making tissue box covers.

But at some point, failure takes its toll.  I can’t say for certain why I feel like a failed tissue box cover artist.  But, I do.
